Create Your Own Action
Bring the drinks
I will make ahead large amount of sweetened drinks at home and bring them to work and not leave me tempted to buy drinks that are packed in a wasteful containter.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Food
Shop the Bulk Bins
I will purchase dry goods from the bulk section of my grocery store, and use my own containers to do so.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA approved reusable quart sized bag.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or I will make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Pets
Invest in a Pooper-Scooper
I will swap out my single use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper.
Pets
Homemade Pet Food/Treats
I will prepare my own pet food and treats to avoid plastic packaging.
Pets
Pet Waste
I will spend 60 minutes learning how to compost pet waste at home or research pet waste composting services available in my area.
Personal Care
Fresh as a Daisy
I will use deodorant either from a bar or a jar or I will make my own.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own airplane snacks and eat at local restaurants to avoid take-out containers.
Personal Care
See the Green
I will properly recycle used contact lenses and packaging.
Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a beach, highway, river, or other cleanup effort in my community.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Kelly Suddeth 7/02/2019 12:36 PMDring this challenge I found myself asking the server more questions about the portion sizes of what I was on the menu to ensure the dish would not be too much for me to eat. I do like to eat out but I do not want to take home in plastic containers.-
Kelly Suddeth 7/02/2019 12:41 PMThis challenege was easy for me.

Kelly Suddeth 7/02/2019 12:23 PMIt was a great day for a waste free lunch, I brought a sandwich made from home and yogurt with locally grown blackberries and raspberries! nothing like a fresh jam to sweeten up lunch. At home I compost the paper containers that the berries come in or return them to the farmer from whom I bought the fruit. Reusing and reducing! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Fresh as a DaisyDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Kelly Suddeth 7/01/2019 12:00 PMI eliminated deodorant with aluminum approximately 10 years ago . This was one of the first personal care products for me to swap out for a healthier option. I have used a variety of brands in plastic tubes and most recently purchased a deodorant in a glass jar with no plastic wrapping around it. Finding one type of deodorant wasn't enough for me so I searched for a local maker and found a company in Virginia Beach which produces deodorant and can be purchased less than 10 miles of where it is produced!-
Kelly Suddeth 7/02/2019 12:30 PMThis is what I found at Organic Food Depot on Granby Street, however, I went to the Farm Life Pungo General Store and they make their cosmetics in mostly glass containers right there in Virginia Beach. -
