Andrew's actions
Personal Care
Just Say No
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl.
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Family
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 2 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 2 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Andrew Stewart 7/07/2019 6:59 AMThe kids estimate that at least 75% of restaurants in town no longer provide a straw automatically - though many will bring one if you ask. We never ask! And have started carrying a set of metal straws with us when we go out. It’s a real gearshift, but it feels immediately productive. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Andrew Stewart 7/07/2019 6:56 AMWe have done this recently, swapping out plastic for glass wherever we could; they’re sturdier, more fun to handle, and less likely to contaminate the food we store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Andrew Stewart 7/07/2019 6:54 AMWe just bought a set of glass “Tupperware” of all shapes and sizes - so even our reusables are greener than they used to be. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Swap the SnacksHow does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?
Andrew Stewart 7/07/2019 6:52 AMFor the kids it develops a taste for more natural and organic food, it’s obviously healthier; and it reduces waste!
