What did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?

the most waste i create is waste i didn’t necessarily think about, mostly from food packaging. there are snacks i have every day, such as tortilla chips, that come in plastic packaging. i will be trying to decrease my use of these products in the future, in favor of ones that use less plastic and other packaging.

What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

so far, i am still working on finding a bar conditioner, but i recently purchased a bar shampoo and i’ve always used bar soap. i’m currently waiting for a bar conditioner to arrive at my co-op, so i’m currently using the rest of my bottled conditioner, as it’s more waste friendly to use the rest of it. using a bar shampoo hwill also save me money in the long run, as they usually last longer, and i am also keeping trash out of our oceans.

Disposable tampons and menstrual pads are often quite expensive. What are the economic and personal benefits of this switch for you?

at first, i was a little bit hesitant to buy a menstrual cup. i was concerned about the sizing, as well as the upfront cost, which can seem more expensive than a box of tampons. however, after doing the math, i realized that spending $40 on two menstrual cups would save me lots of money in the long run. it has also saved a lot of waste, even after just using my cup for one period. i would definitely recommend this, as it’s something small that does a lot.
