The biggest difficulty for me out there is still the issue of plastic straws.  I don't use the things yet restaurants persist in sending them along even when you tell them "no".  You can give them back but I'm sure they just throw them away.  It's Lose/Lose - waste in that they go unused and potentially deadly waste when they end up in the garbage stream.

Local in-season fruits and veges make buying unpackaged produce so easy!

    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

Wrapping produce serves producer, retailer and consumer.  Plastic packaging makes for ease of sale for the retailer and the "modern" consumer has come to expect that everything they purchase to be wrapped and packed.  I'm old enough to remember when soda and milk came in returnable (for deposit!) bottles, bottled water was unheard of, and people bought  most of their produce from local open air markets in season.  It took a little work, it took a little time, but we were "green" before we knew what that meant.

I know that many folks recycle their plastic bottled water bottles but do they really need to drink "bottled" water in the first place? Here in Baltimore, our tap water is  excellent and still the number of cases of bottled water sold is staggering - why?
