REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Swap the SnacksHow does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?
Melissa Segura 7/02/2019 5:28 PMIt not only benefits the environment by reducing the amount of plastic, but it also benefits our health as well. For a while, I would choose a bag of chips over an apple because it was what we would get from the market; however, over time, my eating habit has gotten a lot better, which has made me feel better overall. -
Melissa Segura 7/02/2019 5:17 PMWhile I was at the supermarket today, I brought these little reusable bags that my mom and my sister got from Walt Disney World to use in place of a plastic produce bag! -
Melissa Segura 7/01/2019 6:13 PMDoes anyone know of good shampoo/conditioner bars? I heard Lush had really good ones but just in case, other options would be amazing as well!-
Rachel Munson 7/01/2019 7:00 PMThere is a brand called Ethique that I really liked. The only downfall was the amount of packaging they used to ship it to me.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Melissa Segura 7/01/2019 6:03 PMIt was easier than expected, as we always have reusable bags from events laying around the house but when California added the extra charge on plastic bags, we started putting them into good use. Now every time we go to the supermarket, we always bring reusable bags with us. A new goal I want to set is to bring reusable produce bags when we go to the market to cut down on the single-use produce bags they always have readily available. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Melissa Segura 7/01/2019 5:59 PMMany more people are now buying reusable straws from different sites and bringing them when they go on their morning run to Starbucks for that frappe and to restaurants. In Long Beach, there are certain restaurants that now offer paper straws instead of plastic ones. Other places are now only handing out plastic straws when people ask for them, which is a huge leap from handing them out to everyone. For Christmas, my aunt gave me some reusable straws which are really cool! A common phrase that is spread around is "save the turtles!" when people discuss plastic straws. -
Melissa Segura 7/01/2019 5:53 PMWhile I was volunteering at the aquarium today, I brought my trusty hydroflask with me!
