The personal benefits of switching to bar soap and shampoo outweigh the negatives. For one, even recycling your soaps still takes energy to haul them away, process them and ship them to the buyers and so on. By choosing a company that eliminates plastic from the start saves energy, which is a personal benefit to me and the earth. It also saves space for other recyclables to go in my recycling bin. I am sure there are more benefits to switching to bar soaps, but these are just a few.

Naked Bins
I will either line my trash cans with repurposed newspaper or paper bags, or I will not line my trash cans at all.

Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 3 piece(s) of litter each day.

That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?

I will use my own containers when ordering takeout.
Food
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.

Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Food
Start Composting
I will start a compost collection at home, work, or school.

It's hard to believe it's already the last day of July! All of you have done so well during this challenge, so I want to congratulate every single one of you for refusing single use plastics. Our actions are undoubtedly inspiring others to do the same.
If you haven't already, don't forget to log your actions for today and high five your fellow teammates. I also want to hear from all of you! What was challenging for you during July? How was this experience for you?
Keep up these habits you have created and I hope to see you back next year for another Plastic Free EcoChallenge :-) !!

Lizzie Van Deusen 7/24/2019 8:20 AMWe are getting so close to hitting 16,000 participants, which is close to the record for the most number of participants in an EcoChallenge!! We need less than 1,000 people to beat that record. I challenge you to send your family, friends, coworkers an invitation to join the EcoChallenge, it's not too late!
There is still a week left in the Challenge, so there's still time to get engaged and make a difference for wildlife! -

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Lather UpWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Lizzie Van Deusen 7/11/2019 8:59 AMThe economic benefits of bar soap/shampoo/conditioner are clear: less plastic= money saved. For businesses that switch to plastic free products, they save money on plastic containers, packaging and the shipment of the plastic products. Why don't more companies switch to plastic free options?
The personal benefits of switching to bar soap and shampoo outweigh the negatives. For one, even recycling your soaps still takes energy to haul them away, process them and ship them to the buyers and so on. By choosing a company that eliminates plastic from the start saves energy, which is a personal benefit to me and the earth. It also saves space for other recyclables to go in my recycling bin.
