REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Maggie Schumacher 7/31/2019 7:14 AMThe greatest challenge is around convenience. We have had many conversations with friends about being prepared with straws and flatware with us when out and about. By taking our own action of refusing plastic and having reusable options, we are setting an example and inspiring others that are ready to make a change for a better planet! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel ToiletriesWhat is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?
Maggie Schumacher 7/31/2019 7:10 AMWith a little effort and planning this is an easy choice! After a few time of being mindful, this will be an easy habit to keep! -
Maggie Schumacher 7/31/2019 7:04 AMThis has been a great challenge for me and my family. It has helped us increase our awareness of our day to day usage of plastic and reduce our impact. We will continue to educate ourselves and be mindful of our choices and share what we have learned with our friends and our community! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Maggie Schumacher 7/31/2019 7:00 AMPlanning ahead makes this fairly simple. Each family member has their own "travel bag" with snacks, reusable water bottles and reusable utensils and straws. Happy plastic free travels! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Maggie Schumacher 7/29/2019 10:13 AMI have noticed a few restaurants that offer paper straws. There are also a few that have reusable straws. Some are providing only upon request. There is still so many straws used though! The importance of each person being more aware of the impact of straws and making choices to avoid using them is critical for significant change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Maggie Schumacher 7/29/2019 10:09 AMPlastic: The Real Sea Monster
Continuing to learn how plastic breaks down in water and it's impact on not only the ocean and it's creatures, but it's lasting impact on everyone and everything! We have a couple more documentaries on our list to watch! -
Maggie Schumacher 7/28/2019 4:57 PMToday while travelling we brought our own shampoo/conditioner, travel mugs, straws and water bottles. The amount of plastic saved felt really good! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Glass Bottle BabyHow can you take your commitment to sustainable living beyond yourself and your family? How can you, personally, work toward broader change?
Maggie Schumacher 7/28/2019 4:55 PMThere have been a few places that we go to regularly that have gone green and support our efforts and encourage others to join. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use a Reusable Mug / Collapsible CupGreat job on getting rid of your disposable cup habit! How does it make you feel? What's next on your list to reduce your waste?
Maggie Schumacher 7/27/2019 8:26 PMThis has been one of the easiest habits to create. Our family now has a bag that has cutlery, metal straws and to go containers for eating out. Not only does it make us feel good to take action, but it also sparks conversations with others. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Estimate Your Plastic Consumption and Go #PlasticNeutralWhat did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?
Maggie Schumacher 7/27/2019 5:45 PMThis was a great way to really look at our usage and recognize where we have room for improvement. What surprised me the most was beauty/cleaning products. Already making changes...
