Ya know, I made those cat treats and there are about 40 of them so I'm def not making them everyday. I'd be "done" with my challenge if that wasn't a daily one. lol Just sayin'!

Community Join a Cleanup Effort

How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

Okay, I'll be honest; I missed the litter clean up yesterday due to some complications. To make up for it, I went out today on my own, for an hour, and filled a bag full with trash off the streets!

What was neat is that I chose a spot that there were a lot of homeless people. They were all friendly and enjoyed chatting with me while watching me clean up. It was nice to make some connections while I was cleaning. They even helped me a bit.

I may not wait for the next clean up opportunity to do this again. :)

Does making your own pet food seem like a habit you can keep up in the long term? What else can you do to reduce your use of plastic packaging that can come from taking care of your pet's needs?

I found a super easy, two ingredient recipe for making cat treats! I was missing a few of the tools they recommended for making them look prettier but they turned out okay and the cats seem pretty stoked about them. *waiting for them to cool now* :)

  I went grain-free because one of my kitties gets UTI's pretty easy so we're always avoiding the grains.
  
  HOMEMADE GRAIN-FREE TUNA CAT TREATSBy

  Whip up a batch of homemade tuna cat treats your cat will LOVE. They're grain, gluten and dairy free!
  
  Prep time: 10 minutes
  Cook time: 25 minutes
  Total time: 35 minutes
  Yield: 50 cat treats
  
  Ingredients
  - 1 egg
  - 1 tin tuna in oil, thoroughly drained (approx 120g / 4oz)
  
  Recipe
  
  1. Preheat your oven to 170C / 330F and line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper or baking parchment.
  
  2. Crack open the egg and separate the white from the yolk. Discard the yolk and place the white in a large mixing bowl.
  
  3. Using a hand or electric whisk, beat the egg white until stiff peaks form when the whisk is removed. Set to one side.
  
  4. Empty the can of tuna into the bowl of your blender (I find a mini blender works perfectly for this task). Add two tablespoons of the whisked egg white to the tuna, then blend thoroughly until the mixture is a smooth paste and there are no flakes or lumps.
  
  5. Using a spatula, remove the tuna paste mixture from your blender, and fold it gently into your remaining whisked egg white. Take care not to knock too much air out of the mixture while you are combining the two.
  
  6. Transfer the resulting mix into a piping bag with a small star nozzle attachment. Pipe the mixture into small rounds on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Take care not to make the swirls too large (as this would make it tricky for your cat to eat the treats).
  
  7. Place in the oven for 20-25 minutes, until the treats feel dry to the touch and dislodge easily from the baking parchment. Transfer to a wire rack to cool, and then into airtight jars for storage. If kept cool and dry, they should store well for up to 4 weeks.

I am hoping to better prepare for making my cats treats by this weekend! I plan to find a simple recipe to try out, online. Then I will find time to go to the store for supplies. Next week I will be participating in our monthly litter clean up! I'll be done with all of my challenges soon! YAY!

Which documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?

I selected a 2018 documentary called A Plastic Wave and I learned that in that 30min I was watching, 300 tonnes of plastic has entered our ocean. Seeing the beaches of India made me so so sad. It was heartbreaking to see the poor communities who don't receive any trash pick up, just throw their garbage and plastics into their river. They are surrounded by it. We need to stop using plastic - NOW!

This wasn’t a part of my challenge however, I drafted a letter to share with my team and then sent it to our local shop. It’s a request that they stop using single use plastic and to opt for compostable (At least)

  It’s been so easy and awesome! One thing I’ve done different is making just enough to clean with so I don’t have to go find new bottles.
  
  I’m thinking now, that I’ll finish up the cleaners I have now and then turn those bottles into homemade cleaners :)

I was out sick for the first part of the challeng. Which is okay because I didn’t produce much waste while I was down and out. I am feeling much better and it felt awesome to make my own glass cleaner at home. Can’t wait to try another one! Think I’ll do an all purpose cleaner next. :)
