REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Nayely Sabas 7/06/2019 11:19 PMI mentioned this before but knowing where your food comes from is like one of the best feelings in the world. It truly is powerful. It gives you a whole new connection to the land and your food. I think I’m more excited to learn about gardening than the actual yields. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Nayely Sabas 7/06/2019 11:15 PMI think just by pulling up to a restaurant or a party with your to go/reusable cutlery is a good way to advocate and educate. People are generally curious and will ask you about it. And there you can talk to them about why plastic cutlery is an easy swap that makes a huge difference. People listen! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Fresh as a DaisyDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Nayely Sabas 7/06/2019 11:12 PMBelieve it or not I’m the one of the many that got dark underarms as a result of aluminum deodorant. I’ve been using a natural deodorant from lush for years now but with this summer heat I made the switch to a stronger local deodorant that comes in a cardboard applicator. And even if it says natural on the label make sure you read the ingredients you’ll be surprised on what you can find in there. After making the switch to the natural deodorant my underarms cleared up -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Dam the FlowDisposable tampons and menstrual pads are often quite expensive. What are the economic and personal benefits of this switch for you?
Nayely Sabas 7/06/2019 11:08 PMI have had a cup for almost two years now and it was the best decision of my life. It was 25 dollars but it probably has saved me at least 100 dollars in these past two years. -
Nayely Sabas 7/06/2019 11:06 PMHi everyone! After years of tiny compost bin I think it’s time to invest in a good/real compost bin. I’m thinking of getting a worm farm compost bin. But I would also like to know what everyone else has and what you would recommend. -
Nayely Sabas 7/05/2019 10:29 PMI made a late run to sprouts for some oatmeal. I shopped the bulk bins and got the cotton bags that someone on here posted about. Thanks for the tip! I’m also looking into making my own, it doesn’t seem so hard. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Nayely Sabas 7/05/2019 8:43 PMAs of late I’ve been seeing a lot less plastic in my kitchen but that is because my brothers are out of state on a trip. But I did notice that we had a few Trader Joe’s pasta bags in the future I’ll be buying bulk! Also our brushes and sponges are made of plastic believe it or not. I will be trying to make the swap to natural fiber brushes. -
Nayely Sabas 7/05/2019 8:39 PMWith all these earthquakes going on, it makes me wonder about our natural disaster kit. I took a peak and saw a good amount of plastic in the kit. But I also recognize that that the plastic in this kit is needed since all the food is meant to last a few years. But I also noticed where alternatives and swaps could be made. Like tooth paste, shampoo bars, even plastic free bandages. What is in your kit
