Teresa - I use micro cloths just because they are gentler on the kitchen counters.....the micro cloths are great for cleaning car windows, mirrors, dusting, wiping up spills wherever. The idea is to be mindful/aware, share ideas, and then take action to reduce waste.

  Hi Debbi!
  I have been using cloth napkins for a few years, some I sewed up from cotton cloth, a set that was free from Too Good To Toss, and a couple that were purchased. I have some that are actually square terry dishcloths, very absorbent and my favorites for everyday use. Also use them to roll up a set of utensils and a metal straw, to keep in my "car bag" for take out, drive-thru and gotta have it iced coffee on the run.
  
  Julia Calderon got me started using E-Cloths for wiping up the stove—even cooked on spills—incredible and no soap needed. There is one I use after every shower to wipe down the shower walls. Just a quick wipe down, ring it out and hang it up. We have very hard water and the walls, faucet and shower-head have been build-up and spot free.

  Thanks for this link. It has inspired me to do better. I don't use many paper towels but when I did my waste audit for this challenge I found they were there on the list. I'm going to invest in one of those multi-packs of cotton, "car cleaning" clothes and try harder to use them in place of the paper towels.

FOOD: Shop The Bulk Bins

The natural market that we go to allows shoppers to bring their own containers for nut butter - they have two nutter butter machines, one for almond butter and one for peanut butter. You can also bring your own spice jars and fill up your spice jars that way. Super cheap. The market also has nuts, lentils, flour, pasta, dried fruit, loose tea etc. Don't forget to get the tare weight before you fill you containers. When empty simply wash and reuse over and over again.

  Thanks for this information! I was just thinking we should start a Warwick co-op for bulk items since there are enough of us in this community who would support it. Good to know there is a place to go in the meantime. I actually went to this store recently and really loved it though I didn't realize they had all of the items you mentioned sold in bulk. I also saw plastic containers available near the bulk nuts and thought that was the only way one could purchase them. I'll be making another trip soon with my refillable containers!

  Christy, The market is Nature's Pantry located in New Windsor. While it's not around the corner once a month or a trip with a friend or two it certainly is worth while. They also have produce, dairy and a frozen isle as well. Don't forget to bring your own jars - at the cash register they will give you .33 cents of for bringing your own jars for the almond butter or peanut butter refill. And, they also give you .10 cents off when you bring your own bags.

Question: How can I keep my outdoor potted rosemary plant alive inside during the winter months? That would save me, and others, from purchasing herbs and keeping more plastic out of our landfills.
