REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?
Jennifer Runyan 7/20/2019 3:05 PMReflection: I would say that about 70% of the trash is food scraps or food packaging! -
Jennifer Runyan 7/20/2019 2:57 PMI appreciate how Plastic Free July has opened up more conversations with my colleagues. Thanks Plastic Free July! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel SmartHow can/did you prepare to be successful in this action? Did you engage in conversation with anyone about your new habit?
Jennifer Runyan 7/19/2019 4:36 PMReflection: I did engage a colleague about taking bar soaps on vacation. She actually shaves off pieces of soap to take with- ingenious! This takes up less space and weighs less. A definite win. -
Jennifer Runyan 7/19/2019 4:33 PMCan't believe we're already half way through Plastic Free July! Let's keep it going folks! -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel ToiletriesWhat is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?
Jennifer Runyan 7/16/2019 9:35 AMReflection question: Travelling with bar soaps is so much easier! No worries about leaks, don't need to take it out of your bag for airport security, and less room is needed for storage! Total win. -
Jennifer Runyan 7/16/2019 9:34 AMReflection on weekend getaway reusables: Brought silverware, cloth napkins, water bottles, and straws. Waste produced for two people was in two to-go plastic containers, two paper containers, and two small Gatorade bottles. Makes me wonder, if there's a way that I can get a sports drink without the packaging...hmm... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Shop the Bulk BinsHow has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?
Jennifer Runyan 7/13/2019 2:54 PMReflection: For some bulk food I get, the quality degrades (i.e. pretzels get stale quickly), but other foods don't make a difference. I think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods because they prefer to have certain brands. Packaging also allows the convenience of grab-n-go. -
Jennifer Runyan 7/13/2019 2:45 PMLooking forward to a weekend getaway. Bringing all of my reusables! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Jennifer Runyan 7/12/2019 1:34 PMReflection: Benefits from my own garden include a smaller carbon footprint, understanding growing seasons, getting in touch with your plot of land (i.e. how intense sun can get, soil type, etc), and tastier produce!
