Beach Cleanup
We are very grateful to be living here in SoCal, but we still strive for a cleaner environment. As the summer weather sets in and the sea breeze comes forth, we become induced to go to the beach. However, upon our arrival we see waste. Seeing trash near our ocean and washed up on shore pushes me to keep our beaches clean with a Beach Cleanup Challenge. I hope to, with the help of some friends, pick up trash at the beach and discover new ways on how to keep our beaches unsullied.

All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or I will make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!

S Ruiz 7/17/2019 7:53 PMMakes me sad when I think of the marriage between capitalism and natural resources :c I hope to one day help protect biodiversity by helping manage ecosystem services. Here’s to this challenge! :) -

S Ruiz 7/15/2019 11:49 AMTaking a philosophy course this summer. Come to think of it, philosophy has a lot of drive behind protecting our world. There’s a moral relationship between humans and the environment that harnesses so much value. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Pretty oh so PrettyHow can you advocate for the importance of reducing packaging to the rest of your friends, family and larger community?
S Ruiz 7/15/2019 12:18 AMI can be an advocate to the environment through my art. It's a way for others to indulge for new ideas. I also think social media is a great platform to spread awareness. Both art and the media can be a catalyst towards a better future. :)) <3 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Dam the FlowDisposable tampons and menstrual pads are often quite expensive. What are the economic and personal benefits of this switch for you?
S Ruiz 7/15/2019 12:10 AMMaking the switch-
Economic Benefits -> I'm not spending anything on multiple pieces of plastic packaged feminine hygiene products. It's reusable which means less waste in the landfill. :)
Personal Benefits -> it's surprisingly comfortable and works so much better -
S Ruiz 7/14/2019 11:50 PMMakes me happy to see my sister drop off plastic straws in our cup collection. Glad I’m setting an example for her. Hopefully I can get her on board for the project! :)) -
