Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 10 hour(s) in my community.
Family
Natural Paints
I will paint rooms in my home with low/no VOC or natural paints.
Lifestyle
Naked Bins
I will either line my trash cans with repurposed newspaper or paper bags, or I will not line my trash cans at all.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Thoughtful ToysDoes your child play differently with natural or repurposed toys than with other toys? If so, how?
Marissa Rivera 7/18/2019 6:13 PMThey seem to take more care for wooden toys vs plastic toys that can be easily broken! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Visit A Waste Management FacilityLandfills and recycling centers tell us a lot about our communities and purchasing habits. What did you glean from your visit?
Marissa Rivera 7/18/2019 6:11 PMLots of people try their hand at recycling, but are lazy with the process causing full batches to be tossed out. Or they fail to check what can be properly be recycled in their area. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Share My ActionsIn what ways is social media an effective tool for sharing your values?
Marissa Rivera 7/12/2019 5:46 PMThis plants the seeds and inspires thought in others about what they consider normal on a daily basis. Challenging common beliefs is how change begins! -

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Pearly WhitesCurrently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?
Marissa Rivera 7/10/2019 11:55 AMPurchasing toothpaste in more sustainable packing is directly voting with my dollars. I have previously tried at least 4 more eco-friendly and natural toothpaste brands, all of which still come in a plastic tube. This morning was my first attempt at creating a whitening toothpaste powder from bulk items I already had on-hand. Once this is out, I want to get my hands on some tooth tabs before attempting to make my own! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Naked BinsDoes changing the lining of your waste bin change the kind or amount of trash you produce?
Marissa Rivera 7/10/2019 11:50 AMBeing more conscious of what goes into your trash also leads you to be more conscious of what you are using to dispose of your trash! Anything that cannot be reused, recycled, or composted that ends up in the trash now has a new set of compostable bin liners! Even small steps promote big changes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care That Was a Close ShaveWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Marissa Rivera 7/09/2019 5:57 AMDisposable razors probably became a thing once more fast paced style lives were more common. If you forget them, just grab another one, no biggie. Easier to travel with. Some may consider them to be more sanitary as well. However, I love the shave from my new razor, and I feel great using it as well. With proper care and handling, it should last me practically forever, and then can be totally recycled or upcycled unlike cheap plastic razors that just end up in the trash after a short life. -
Marissa Rivera 7/09/2019 5:53 AMAltogether I failed to take pictures, I have successfully gone completely plastic free grocery shoppinng for the second week in a row now!
