Mote has many educational programs, even a traveling exhibit. The traveling exhibit focuses on environmental education, including marine debris reduction. Plastic straws make the list as one of the most common marine debris items found around the world. I appreciate all of Mote's community outreach programs and hope that businesses will adopt more eco friendly programs.

Stephanie Rischard 7/23/2019 5:33 AMA massage therapist friend of mine yesterday asked that I try a water that she would like to transition to giving her clients instead of single-use plastic water bottles. It's called Just Water and it comes in a paper-based bottle with a plant-based cap. It's reusable and recyclable. The company chose to produce their cap with sugarcane as their core ingredient. They chose sugarcane because it grows densely, requiring less energy to farm. While this process isn't absolutely sustainable, it's great to see companies that put in effort to reach a more eco friendly future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Stephanie Rischard 7/09/2019 8:57 AMOne of the main promoters in our community that I look to for supporting eco friendly practices is Mote Marine. Mote Marine is a non-profit marine lab and aquarium that strives to better our ocean environment. Not only is it a popular destination for the local community, but the facility is one of our top tourist destinations as well.

Stephanie Rischard 7/05/2019 12:07 PMPurchased a new reusable water bottle last weekend! They're great for taking on outdoor adventures. Many of our Florida Springs parks require the use of a reusable water bottle only. I really appreciate this rule because I believe that it prevents a significant amount of trash from entering the pristine waterways. I took the bottle for its first adventure down the Ichetucknee last weekend. It now follows me to work everyday! -
Stephanie Rischard 7/04/2019 7:59 AMBringing my own reusable fork to work with me each day has been the simplest (but gratifying) effort in reducing my use of plastic. I pack one in my bag each morning as my routine!
