Ashley Price 7/03/2019 11:24 AMI first challenged myself to give up single use plastic for Lent. This second challenge has been helpful because it has really opened my eyes to how much plastic is in our lives outside of home, for example restaurants that serve in Styrofoam or plastic even when you dine in. Also, there is sooo much plastic at the grocery stores that is unnecessary. Recognizing this has allowed me make better choices about where to eat and shop. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Ashley Price 7/03/2019 11:19 AMIn addition to glass containers, I have a stock pile of glass jam jars that I have been using to take my lunch to the office. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Ashley Price 7/03/2019 11:18 AMI made the switch during lent when first decided to give up/ reduce my plastic use. It was hard initially, but the change is worth it and has gotten much easier. Ridding/ reducing single use plastic from my home has also opened my eyes to how much actually exists in the grocery. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Ashley Price 7/03/2019 11:15 AMPlastics are everywhere at the grocery store and much of it is unnecessary. I have committed to never again buying pre-cut fruit and veggies, and as it turns out the fruit and veggies are much, much better this way! -
