I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Tiffany Porter 7/23/2019 11:48 AMI watched The True Cost. I already knew a lot about the textile waste and depravity of workers. It was just to see the connection between materialism and capitalism and it being so clearly outlined in how it’s ruining not only the earth but the human species. We can absolutely live with less. Having things really doesn’t mean you’re happy. It just gives you a glimpse of it and how fleeting it is. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Brusha Brusha BrushaWhat are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?
Tiffany Porter 7/17/2019 7:32 AMI actually have started to refuse the “free” bag of goodies you get from the dentist when I go every six months when I had an exorbitant amount of plastic cases that I couldn’t repurpose. So this seems like the natural next step. If my community isn’t using an electric toothbrush, then I would suggest switching to bamboo, because why wouldn’t you? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Fresh as a DaisyDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Tiffany Porter 7/10/2019 3:37 PMMy thyroid was off at a drs visit a couple of years ago and when I asked if there was something that caused it they said there was speculation around certain deodorants and heating food in plastic. So I changed to a natural deodorant and never heat any food in plastic anymore and my thyroid tested normal the next time around. So....could be a placebo or could be something to it. But NOW, I’ve decided to make my own deodorant for zero waste. I hope y’all will be honest with me if I start to stink, or stink worse than I already do.-
Tiffany Porter 7/11/2019 11:16 AMIt was a registered nurse actually, but I actually purposefully find doctors who are happy to medicate but also happy to give advice on alternatives to medication. They are out there, but are hard to find. -
Melissa Eusden 7/11/2019 8:50 AMI'm surprised your doctor said this was caused by deodorants and heating food in plastic. I feel like most doctors wouldn't talk about that stuff. -
Margo Mullane 7/10/2019 5:39 PMGlad I live stayed away....jk love you!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Tiffany Porter 7/09/2019 1:19 PMI wouldn’t have any trash, or I could get down to one bag every two weeks. I’m at one bag a week. My greatest weakness if cheese. My family's weakness is all the filler stuff that’s unhealthy anyway. I have been making more homemade treats and snacks, but I can’t keep up with their appetites. But I do try to buy bulk instead of prepackaged for cheese and snacks. I’d say I’ve at least halved my plastic, but I’m far from being plastic free. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care That Was a Close ShaveWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Tiffany Porter 7/03/2019 12:41 PMI do think that a capitalist society has become an extremely wasteful society. We could definitely stand to scale it back on a lot of levels. But razors have always seemed extremely wasteful to me. I adapted to just disposing of the heads, But this is NO waste! Which always makes me happy while also keeping me look less like a man. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! -
Tiffany Porter 7/01/2019 8:01 AMHappy first day of your challenge! Here’s to a cleaner world!
