Nancy's actions
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 2 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Personal Care
Lather Up
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, and conditions with either a bar or refillable option.
Lifestyle
Natural Fibers
When available, I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
Food
Start Composting
I will start a compost collection at home, work, or school.
Food
Takeout Pro
I will use my own containers when ordering takeout.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA approved reusable quart sized bag.
Lifestyle
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own airplane snacks and eat at local restaurants to avoid take-out containers.
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging.
Food
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.

Nancy Picchi 7/04/2019 8:05 PMThe apartment building where I live in NYC has just begun a composting effort, which I joined on July 1. I have a dedicated container where I store all of the food scraps, coffee grounds, and coffee filters, and which I keep in the refrigerator until it’s full, when I carry it down to the special containers that NYC niw provides for composting. If apartment dwellers in a big vity can do this, then almost everyone should be able to do so.
