Jennifer Paulk 7/02/2019 9:50 AMNo single use plastics have been wasted by me today! I'm going grocery shopping later and will do my best to keep single use plastics to a minimum. This is going to be a toughie, but I'm up for the challenge. Does anyone have any grocery shopping tips and best practices to avoid single plastics?-
Patti Brueggemann 7/02/2019 11:37 AMI went shopping this morning at Publix and by sticking to fresh produce I didn't buy anything in plastic. Unfortunately there were things I wanted like strawberries and mushrooms that my store only carries in a plastic container so I didn't buy those things. I don't eat meat or dairy so it's easier to shop but there still so much that's not available unpackaged or even just packaged in cardboard. Good luck with your shopping!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Jennifer Paulk 7/01/2019 9:17 AMOne of the best benefits of growing your own veggies, herbs and fruits is that you know what growing practices were used. You'll skip harmful chemicals and have the ultimate in control. We grow peppers, herbs and keep trying to plant tomatoes (still trying to figure this one out). This helps us reduce waste from purchasing items and using a small portion. We can harvest only what we need. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Jennifer Paulk 7/01/2019 9:14 AMYes! My daughter's friends are all using metal straws to help Save the Turtles. On our grounds here at JZG we do not provide straws or plastic lids at this point. We have messaging that will educate our guests and invite them to 'skip the straw' in their own lives.
