Kathleen Walston Pagan 7/30/2019 11:58 AMThis is a very interesting article about some alternatives to plastic....and there is a link at end to more info about how the World Economic Forum is working to reduce plastic with a project called Loop. I hope Gainesville can get in the loop soon!! https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2019/07/6-sustainable-alternatives-to-help-us-cut-down-on-plastic-
Kim Harris 7/30/2019 1:52 PMFascinating stuff! And did you see this article that was linked from yours? It's about how whole countries, like Canada, are starting to ban single-use plastics! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/10/canada-ban-single-use-plastics-bags-bottles-straws-2021

Kathleen Walston Pagan 7/26/2019 9:21 AMTeam Gainesville is now ranked at #30-- in the country. Maybe we should ask some creative local musicians to write lyrics to a song.....
"30 ways to leave all plastic" Just shop the bin, Lynn. Pick up a jar, Lars. Leave the plastic bags, Mags.....-
Kathleen Walston Pagan 7/29/2019 12:50 PMWow Kim-- I didn't realize this was the international rank. Awesome--- and today July 29 we are #29! -
Kim Harris 7/27/2019 7:35 AMWe''ve got two teams who are very close to us, so let's all keep completing actions and checking in! And technically, it's #30 in the world, as there are supposedly 50-something countries with teams. No matter, #30 out of 774 teams from anywhere is fantastic!!

Swallowtail Farms Creamery Yogurt---in a vertical case near the other dairy options -
Kathleen Walston Pagan 7/25/2019 8:19 AMThis is not just about plastic waste (it is mentioned) but rather all the waste challenges we face- some interesting graphics - https://www.nbcnews.com/mach/video/wasteland-the-future-of-trash-in-a-post-landfill-world-64358469968-
Windy Wood 7/25/2019 12:24 PMI just watched the short video and had no idea how far some cities truck their trash. One fifth of all trash going into landfills is from food waste and the nutrients can never make it back into the soil. Starting a compost pile for all non-animal food scraps is a great way to reduce the amount of waste that you cart to the curb AND help the nutrient cycle for our Florida sandy soils.
