How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

in my case protects wildlife and improves appearance. my litter pickup is on or near rivers i fish. litter includes fishing line and plastic bags (harmful to birds and other wildlife.. Styrofoam coffee cup, soda and beer cans, Styrofoam bait containers etc.
