REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Petra Montague 7/19/2019 7:59 AMAt work I keep my own tea mug with strainer and top, and bring in loose leaf teas so that I'm not using the tea bags that is supplied by the company. I like the idea of bringing a jar in to collect the rind, skins, fruit cores, coffee grinds and tea leaves, etc. I can take the jar home when filled and dump in the compost container. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Shop the Bulk BinsHow has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?
Petra Montague 7/09/2019 4:21 PMBuying bulk foods saves me money unlike buying prepackaged nuts and grains. I’m guessing the bulk foods are fresher but I don’t really know. I do know that it doesn’t taste any worse than the prepackaged foods. My guess on why we prefer the prepackaged because it’s easier and faster to buy prepackaged. Stopping at the market after work and in a rush to shop, get home and cook tends make folks look for shortcuts. Myself included. But I promise to do better by purchasing those soft reusable wraps to put food in and shopping more often in the bulk isles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable Water BottlesUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?
Petra Montague 7/08/2019 5:32 AMI can work with county officials to start a campaign to bring back water fountains in many locations that have public gatherings. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use a Reusable Mug / Collapsible CupGreat job on getting rid of your disposable cup habit! How does it make you feel? What's next on your list to reduce your waste?
Petra Montague 7/08/2019 5:15 AMI have added reusable cups in multiple locations - car, job, backpack - so I always have them and only need to refill. Feels good to not be causing additional waste that pollute the earth
