Samantha's actions
Community
Visit A Waste Management Facility
I will visit a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Lifestyle
Naked Bins
I will either line my trash cans with repurposed newspaper or paper bags, or I will not line my trash cans at all.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging.
Food
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 10 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Family
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 4 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Samantha McKahan 6/20/2019 10:48 AMIf we don't start reusing and recycling more and making it a local as well as global norm then our children and grandchildren are going to have to deal with more carbon output and less oxygen output. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityLandfills and recycling centers tell us a lot about our communities and purchasing habits. What did you glean from your visit?
Samantha McKahan 6/20/2019 10:42 AMI learned that we have so much waste that gets buried in the landfill that every so often they have to move around where you take and dump your trash. I also learned that there are several recycling places that I did not know about.
