Bigi's actions
Create Your Own Action
Design and build outdoor compost bins
To finally build our outdoor compost bins. Been on the list a while but just needed the push. Tired of wasting good veggie scraps that could turn into good soil
Personal Care
Lather Up
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, and conditions with either a bar or refillable option.
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 30 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Pets
Pet Waste
I will spend 60 minutes learning how to compost pet waste at home or research pet waste composting services available in my area.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden in my home, workplace, or community garden
Food
Start Composting
I will start a compost collection at home, work, or school.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Lifestyle
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Personal Care
Just Say No
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl.
Pets
Invest in a Pooper-Scooper
I will swap out my single use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Personal Care
Dam the Flow
I will use a menstrual cup and/or cloth pads

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Bigi Luginbuhl 7/31/2019 11:46 AMNo impact man was the documentary I watched and it was so inspiring and funny and sad to see how much waste we create in this society. I am going to have nightmares about plastic. Must see documentary!! -
Bigi Luginbuhl 7/31/2019 11:38 AMLast day. I feel like I have made a lot of positive permanent changes during this challenge which I will continue and hopefully I will continue to inspire and motivate others to follow suit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPets Invest in a Pooper-ScooperHow are caring for your pet and caring for the environment connected for you?
Bigi Luginbuhl 7/31/2019 11:37 AMStarting a dog poo compost is better for the environment because it’s turning into soil and not going into the landfill. And no plastic bags to throw away even compostable ones which I learned aren’t always the best either -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Lather UpWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Bigi Luginbuhl 7/31/2019 11:35 AMIt’s definitely a lot cheaper and there is no plastic or waste involved. I do want to find a more conditioning bar in the future though. It has been leaving my hair too dry. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?

Bigi Luginbuhl 7/30/2019 3:29 PMThis has been a great challenge and pretty eye opening. -

Bigi Luginbuhl 7/28/2019 5:07 PMTrying some hibiscus tooth powder in a jar. Probably super simple to make too so if I like it I can make it myself. -
Bigi Luginbuhl 7/27/2019 5:58 PMI wish our zoo had more compostables.silverware and cups instead of all the plastic. For a brief time we had compostable bowls in Palm plaza. -
Bigi Luginbuhl 7/26/2019 9:10 AMUsed my shampoo bar but it left my hair pretty dry. Not sure if it’s just the bar I got but will have to figure out a way to hydrate my hair. Probably will have to try some other bars or make my own at some point.
