Final day!  I feel like I’ve learned more this year than last and will continue to reduce my single use plastic consumption. Thank you to Melissa and Caryn for running this challenge!

    Lifestyle Watch a Documentary
Which documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?

I chose the minimialism documentary. It was interesting in terms of how often they would talk about the accumulation of stuff contributing to unhappiness. Some of it seemed a bit extreme but I liked the acceptance of tailoring it tonyour needs and lifestyle. The psychological analyzation of this idea of trying to fill voids by buying things was thought provoking.

How can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?

Reflection Question:  Restaurants, for sure - especially walk up places like food trucks.  I think at a minimum, just asking if they would consider moving from single use disposable cutlery is a way to advocare. Business owners (for the most part) listen to what their customers want.  If they hear it enough.....many businesses in Seward have already taken the step, so it's moving in the right direction....

Melissa, Caryn and I just helped the local ALPAR litter patrol pick up trash for a few hours on this gorgeous sunny afternoon!  It's a great feeling helping out the community.  Tons of people said thanks for our efforts.  I was shocked at how many cigarette butts there were.  And how I never paid that much attention to them before.

It feels pretty darn great.  I hope to do this more often.  ALPAR always takes volunteers - they work T-F starting at noon, it's a great way to volunteer!

used my bamboo fork today at the Lone Chicharron, yummmmmm! They have those compostable plastic-looking cups that say they are made out of plants.  Which got me thinking, do places have community composts?

It's fun to do!  My son loves all things plants.  He is enjoying taking care of the herbs we planted.  :)

What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

I think the majority of my plastic consumption comes from buying food at the grocery store and toiletries.  The format of this calculation is kind of hard to understand, but interesting none the less.
