REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Amanda Kincaid 7/07/2019 8:43 AMI’m very aggressive about picking up litter in natural spaces but this challenge has made me focus more on picking it up in developed areas as well. My town I surprisingly clean around town and surprisingly dirty in the natural areas. This isn’t surprising, I suppose, since people tend to clean up what they consider as “their area” and nature proper is not identified as that for many. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Takeout ProHow could you mitigate issues that may arise if the restaurant does not want to let you use your own containers at first?
Amanda Kincaid 7/06/2019 11:00 AMThis is a challenging one to meet some days just because restaurants don’t default to this. Often, especially with coffee cups, I’ll provide my own container only to pick up and order in a single use item. They move the food product into my container when I request my container back but that sort of defeats the purpose. I’m interested in other people’s experiences in this area-
Brooke Tate 7/06/2019 6:37 PMI've had the same issue with other containers. I once even had someone thank me for not wanting a straw, complimenting my care for the Earth, and then bring us to-go containers with straws, when we said we didn't even want to-go cups lol. People forget, we all make mistakes. But I think it's a matter of trying our best to be obvious with our requests and hope the more we ask, the more normalized and memorable it will be!

REFLECTION QUESTIONPets Pet WasteBy composting your pet waste, you are turning waste into nutrients to feed the soil. In what other ways can you turn waste into a resource in your life?
Amanda Kincaid 7/06/2019 10:58 AMI have a cat and a dog and I didn’t realize all the differences between tending to their waste. The cat waste especially is always a challenge. I think taking a step to reduce single use plastics for cat waste is the best first step but I would love to get to a place where I can compost for both of my animals! I am glad I spent time looking this up- especially for all of the information on food and the complexity that goes into making your animals own food. Not sure if I’d be up to that task - or comfortable doing it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Amanda Kincaid 7/06/2019 6:49 AMI watched minimalism on netflix. The message is great because it’s all about cutting down waste at the source by not participating in unintentional consumerism which results in so much trash and can often turn items which should be an item to be used for years or even decades into a sort of single use item. -
Amanda Kincaid 7/05/2019 7:24 PMThe fourth was nuts! So much waste created by fireworks and people set them off and just leave their trash behind. I rarely do anything with large groups for the fourth but I feel like our culture needs to shift around fireworks just like is needs to shift around balloons!
