Create Your Own Action

Plastic Free Toilet Paper

Buying sustainable toilet paper without plastic packaging can be tricky. It is something we don't think about too much, but even Sustainable Forest Product toilet paper has been getting harder to find. I found a company that wraps the rolls in colorful paper you can reuse and in cardboard boxes. Zero plastic packaging! Also, the toilet paper is recycled paper product.

Way to go, Plastic Free New Orleans team! We made it through the month. Participating in Plastic Free July always highlights how much our culture prioritizes convenience and ease over sustainability, and re-focuses me on finding small ways to limit my impact on the environment despite the challenges inherent in my community. Keep up the good work!

My dashboard was glitching yesterday and wouldn't let me log, but I did figure out how make my own challenge. Plastic free (recycled) toilet paper, for the win!

I was on a roll, but have been forgetting to login each day the past week. Gotta set a reminder! I've been super mindful of what I buy this month and haven't been getting any extra junk I don't really need. This has been a goal of mine for the last few years and Plastic Free July is a great way to remind me to keep it up.

About halfway there and we are the #2 team. Keep it up, NOLA!

I use Ethique brand shampoo and conditioner bars and bar soap. I try to buy that from local producers. I love the shampoo and conditioner bar. My hair gets less tangled and traveling with it is so much easier. Ethique is also palm oil free as they work on researching best sourcing options.

Unfortunately, Ethique is a New Zealand brand, so I get it from Amazon. The shipping is an issue, but I've tried other bars and they leave a waxy residue. Also, Ethique is a really sustainable minded company and has a culture of environmentalism. They have a staff blog with eco tips and stuff.

The bar soap I find at farmer's markets or craft fairs like Freret Fest.

Currently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

I use Bite brand toothpaste bits. These little tablets are sent in a reusable glass bottle and all refills come in paper packaging. Plastic free and no palm oil! Took a few days to adjust, but foams up and is minty. Also, not that much more expensive than brand toothpaste.

If you go to your order email and click view your order it will take you to their site. There will be a pop up for Plastic Free July. At the bottom of it is your referral link.

Challenge starts tomorrow! Grocery shopping today made me realize, yet again, how hard it is to get most products without plastic packaging. Bring it on!

I wish I could buy strawberries or cherries without the stupid plastic bag or container. I have my own cloth produce bags, just let me use them!
