Amy's actions
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 10 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or I will make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 1 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.

Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy Unpackaged ProduceWhy do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Amy Hertzberg 7/10/2019 5:11 AMI think it began as a convenience effort. Plastic packaging allowed for pre washed or pre cut produce, which may have reached a wider range of consumers, individuals who might have felt they didn't have time to use fresh produce before. Now however I think people accept plastic produce packaging as the norm, and believe it is somehow cleaner food. Those who create and distribute this packaging benefit, and therefore have no desire to change this conception. If anything it's harder to find certain products without plastic packaging.
