Randi Hamilton 7/16/2019 12:37 PMI was pleasantly surprised by our waste audit. there was less plastic than I anticipated we would have. That being said, our biggest struggle is in the department of single use/ individual portion items for our kids. While we use bulk as often as possible and reusable containers, this is an area of improvement for us. -
Randi Hamilton 7/15/2019 7:00 AMAnother small win! I use Shipt on occasion and the other day, I asked my assigned shopper if they could please skip the plastic bags for all produce. She was happy to do so and responded that she actually uses the mesh reusable bags if there is a request. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?
Randi Hamilton 7/15/2019 6:55 AMWe have always done a basic composting effort with food scraps through a shared tumbler composter our neighbor has . I recently purchased an Aerobin 400 composter that has been proven to work year round in our climate. We got it up and running last week. Since I am not using my compost for vegetable or fruit bearing plants, we are also putting our dog waste in the composter. So far, so good!-

If anyone is interested, this is the composter we purchased.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Randi Hamilton 7/02/2019 11:49 AMGetting my children on board! This year I let my 6 year old son select all the vegetables and herbs. He is loving the experience and it is fun listening to him explain it all to his little brother.
