Alexa's actions
Personal Care
See the Green
I will properly recycle used contact lenses and packaging.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?
Food
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 3 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Personal Care
Brusha Brusha Brusha
I will replace my plastic toothbrush with a bamboo toothbrush.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Alexa Grauch 7/30/2019 7:40 AMIs a steel razor better because the metal will break down faster than plastic? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal CareWhat are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?
Alexa Grauch 7/30/2019 7:39 AMI bought bamboo toothbrushes on line and they are working just fine. The bristles are still plastic though. I guess I just congratulate myself that I've significantly reduced the amount of plastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Alexa Grauch 7/30/2019 7:37 AMThe toughest part has been telling the waiter that I don't want a straw before they are put on the table, because then it's too late and I bet they go right into the trash. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Alexa Grauch 7/30/2019 7:36 AMI set a location reminder on my cellphone so that every time I pull into the grocery store my phone sends me a reminder to take my own bags into the store. Of course it goes off every time that I drive by the store parking lot which makes me laugh. -
Alexa Grauch 7/17/2019 3:01 PMI was so proud of myself. Skipped the plastic straw in my frappe this afternoon and used one of my brand new, silicone straws. Then I realized my drink was in a plastic cup with a lid. Sigh. This is so hard.-
Claire Downs 7/17/2019 5:53 PMHey, it's all about doing what we can and getting better over time, so congrats on the straw!! Keep up the good work!!!
