I made my own face lotion last night. I'm shocked how well it stacks up against the store bought stuff, especially since I have combination skin. It included aloe vera gel, argan oil, and lavender essential oil. So far, so good, but we'll see if it makes me break out in the next few weeks. Body lotion next?

Currently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

I'd be curious to see the differences in cleanliness between natural and typical toothpastes. A lot of the resources for making your own seem to be use no-no ingredients.

Here's a link with good ingredients and bad ones. Plus two recipes.

A guest recommended Fillaree. https://fillaree.com/ Super cool concept, but I think it's gonna be a little pricey for me. On to new ways to find dish soap that's sustainably packaged.

Buying reusable containers for travel means that I don't have to compromise on the products I love. I got a sample pack of shampoo and conditioner bars from Ethique a while back, that's great to throw the small ones in my back for an overnight trip.

Has anyone tried clean cult? I'd like to order their cartons of dish soap but I want to know how effective it is first!

I've been having such a hard time finding body wash that (1) are in bar form, (2) are reasonably priced at less than $2/bar, and (3) not tested on animals. But I made a discovery! Yardley soap! You can find it really easily. I highly recommend it. I just never realized they didn't test on animals.

It may not be completely zero waste, but recently I tried making my own vanilla extract! I ordered the beans online (they came vacuum sealed in plastic) and now I've been letting them steep in vodka and bourbon (two different batches) since February. I haven't tried it yet. When I do, I'll have roughly two cups of extract! That's a lot compared to those small plastic bottles. As some who bakes a lot, it's a small switch that reduces my plastic and saves me money!
