REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care That Was a Close ShaveWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Carly Flannery 7/31/2019 3:39 PMI’ve been meaning to buy one all month, but they have been out of stock. I ended up buying another type from the Plastic Free Shop. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m excited to! I hear they are a much closer shave. What I really like about it is that you can mail all the dull razor heads back to the company so that they can recycle them! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Carly Flannery 7/31/2019 3:24 PMI find myself being more active on my days off because I have to go out and pick up those pieces of trash. It’s definitely something I want to continue with after plastic free July is over! It also lets me get steps for Pokémon go haha. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Carly Flannery 7/27/2019 7:39 AMI was so excited to plant an herb garden finally! Not only will I get fresh herbs instead of the dried ones, but that means I don’t have to buy fresh herbs in plastic from the grocery store- some of which I always end up throwing away/ composting anyway because it is too much. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Carly Flannery 7/25/2019 8:05 PMIt has been really difficult to cook zero plastic waste meals. I feel like it has made me a lot more creative with what I have and a lot more healthy. Many meals have been vegetarian because it’s hard to come by meat out of plastic/foam packaging and I can buy a bunch of produce with no plastic use at all! Also, switching plastic ziploc bags with Tupperware is such an easy switch that makes a big impact. I’m hoping to continue with that and shopping from bulk bins in the future to keep my plastic use low in the kitchen! -
Carly Flannery 7/03/2019 8:01 PMI used Grove Collaborative to buy some home and personal care products that are more sustainable/ recyclable- including tissues, toilet paper and paper towels all made from sugarcane and bamboo, natural and more eco friendly cleaning products and soap, and compostable sponges!
