    I was curious as to the origin of the phrase the straw that broke the camel's back and have to sheepishly admit I thought it referred to a drinking straw.

    What do Hawaii, California, Oregon, Iowa, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine have in common?

    They all have a bottle bill, but Iowa is considering updating theirs

    I'm grabbing 5 points but I would like to know how many people who read this know what a " bottle bill" is.

    I ask that because in our town in Alaska we have a plastic bag "law" coming up soon - if I understand the legalese.

    I'm somewhat torn. While I enjoy this challenge it often seems daunting. I've noticed that the "travel size" section of stores keeps expanding and that as a frugal person I love freebies (of just about anything), but those freebies are all single-use-ish and individually packaged with plastic. So I guess that's why it's called a challenge.

    I apologize for the back to back posts but I still have not figured out the timing of this challenge. As in what time zone rules? Is it the zone in which the participant resides, is it where the source/administrators of the challenge are? Is it variable as in every participant has their own zone or is it fixed? Any way I think this is 5 points.

    I don't know what to make of my behavior. I still have a pizza box from last July to reuse but I've purchased 16 packages of 36 individually wrapped string cheeses plus hundreds of burritos/frozen sandwiches that are individually wrapped since then. This seems to be a see the forest not the tree thing. Plus I really, really, really have to get a better diet!

      Hey Ken - you can buy string cheese in a "bulk" packaging - about 20 strings bundled together  in a single plastic wrapping.  Then, of course, you'll need some kind of storage container to put them all in  like reusable rubbermaid.
