  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

The largest collection of plastic packaging I see is in 1) the deli counter & the prepared salads and entrees. Grocers want people to be able to see the brightly colored food. Or, 2) the fresh fruit that comes cut up; they can charge more for the convenience. Also, in a single-person household, a whole melon or a whole pineapple will go bad before it gets eaten up.

Needed laundry detergent and fabric softener when I went grocery shopping today, but everything is packaged in plastic jugs. What's a person supposed to do???

I won't buy laundry detergent in plastic bottles.  It's getting harder to find, but so far I've been able to buy powdered detergent at Walmart.  I always buy multiple boxes in case they stop selling it, too.

I use vinegar as a fabric softener and it works great! that being said, vinegar is in plastic jugs as well! I do purchase them in bulk though.
