Great job everyone it'd be great to have a space like this year round to be encouraged yearly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Pets All Natural Pet Toys
In what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/31/2019 8:42 AM
By supplying my dogs with natural toys, it is better for their health and the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle Travel Smart
How can/did you prepare to be successful in this action? Did you engage in conversation with anyone about your new habit?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/31/2019 8:41 AM
What was really helpful was that the people we were visiting were all zero waste, so it made it easy for us to stay with them and talk about it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle Travel Eating
Was this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/24/2019 9:01 AM
The only difficult part was preplanning everything.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/24/2019 9:00 AM
I feel responsible to pick up trash when I see it to prevent it from going into the environment. I just wish the people who littered did too.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle Natural Fibers
What are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/18/2019 7:24 AM
A great benefit of purchasing natural fibers is that they will naturally biodegrade if they are ever tossed out. Textiles made from plastics will never breakdown, so I try to avoid them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle Naked Bins
Does changing the lining of your waste bin change the kind or amount of trash you produce?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/18/2019 7:19 AM
I try to compost more at home so I won't have to clean the food out of the bins as much.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Community Raise Money For a Nonprofit
What are organizations in your region doing to address plastic pollution or other related issues? How can you support them?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/16/2019 7:03 AM
Fertile Grounds is committed to hosting events plastic free and waste free and they have hosted events at the zoo before too. We can support them by choosing to hire them for personal or work related events or donating.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care Just Say No
Do some research on polystyrene and polyvinyl. How many items in your house already contain these toxins?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/16/2019 6:50 AM
Quite a few products contain extra packaging made from these plastics, especially if you purchase something online.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Family Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
Most of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

    McKinly Dortch's avatar
    McKinly Dortch 7/16/2019 6:48 AM
I think I could try to repurpose more things that I would recycle or throw away. I definitely should repair a few things lying around the house too to get their whole life back.
