Incredible discovery:  when I  refuse plastic straws from various merchants, they are quick to complement and applaud the impact!  I've encouraged them to talk with their employers about asking a customer if they need a straw vs automatically including it in the bag.

Single use plastics have become normalized in our society to the point that most people don't see them as a problem. What would you say to a friend, colleague, or family member who may not understand why these disposables are an issue?

I had the opportunity to "show" my young nieces and nephews how bottled water can come in a very large, reusable jug.  No more individual water bottles!  It really hit home when, after the 4th of July weekend celebration, our surrounding neighbors had mounds of water bottles in their recycle bins at the street.  We then made a visit to the recycling center to see the even bigger picture after the holiday.  9 new believers for the Plastic Free Ecochallenge!
