I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.

Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).

Skip the Straw
I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 5 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.

Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 10 piece(s) of litter each day.

Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.

Lindsey Day 7/02/2019 7:09 AMThis morning I refused a plastic bag at the gas station, and used reusable bags when I went to target last night! ♥ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Lindsey Day 7/01/2019 4:39 AMIn order to pick up litter, you gotta walk around! Walking around my neighborhood and workplace allows me to feel more connected to my surroundings. -
Lindsey Day 7/01/2019 4:35 AMDay one! Made different choices this morning for breakfast to ensure I wasn't using any single use plastic! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Lindsey Day 6/29/2019 6:22 AMYes! Florida has been a huge proponent for passing laws, especially in coastal counties, for about restaurants only offering reusable, compostable, or recyclable straws. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsSingle use plastics have become normalized in our society to the point that most people don't see them as a problem. What would you say to a friend, colleague, or family member who may not understand why these disposables are an issue?
Lindsey Day 6/29/2019 6:20 AMI just recently learned there are corals who are starting to choose to eat microplastics (which are harmful to them) instead of their normal food items like brine shrimp eggs. The amount of plastic in our ecosystem is unbelievable and unacceptable. Small changes in everyone's lives can make a huge impact on this problem! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Lindsey Day 6/29/2019 6:19 AMI think it's best to use glass mason jars and glass Tupperware items for storage containers at home! They're fun to decorate. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Lindsey Day 6/29/2019 6:17 AMWorking at the aquarium, it's easy to take a moment out of my day to talk to people about using reusable cutlery. We have a food service café where they provide plastic cutlery, and I think that would be a good place to mention bringing their own silverware or reusable utensils. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Lindsey Day 6/29/2019 6:14 AMBuying a reusable or upcycled bag is easy! I think everyone should be using reusable bags instead of plastic bags.
