REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy Unpackaged ProduceWhy do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Brittany Connelly 7/31/2019 8:28 PMPlastic is definitely from the producer, but I never understood why. Especially with produce! Broccoli wrapped in plastic drives me crazy! Even worse is veggies on a styrofoam tray AND wrapped in plastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Brittany Connelly 7/31/2019 8:26 PMIt gives a sense of pride for the community and is a conversation starter when people ask what you're doing picking up garbage. -
Brittany Connelly 7/28/2019 12:01 PMYa'll I don't know WHERE Zoo New England came from (other than New England) but they pushed us into 3rd place! Don't forget to log your previous days to get more points! We aren't too far behind them to reclaim 2nd place before Wednesday! -
Brittany Connelly 7/24/2019 8:39 AMSuper excited for the Straws movie night! The youth volunteers are so inspiring! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Homemade CleanersWhat did you learn by making your own cleaning products? What is the biggest difference in making vs buying?
Brittany Connelly 7/21/2019 7:10 AMHaving pets makes this an easy choice to make. While a lot of natural cleaners are on the market, using white vinegar and baking soda is a easy and safe to use in the house. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?
Brittany Connelly 7/21/2019 7:09 AMhttps://www.compost-now.org/ is a great resource for those interested in starting to compost! -
Brittany Connelly 7/19/2019 7:22 AMThe rePurpose waste calculator paired nicely with my waste audit. While it says it isn't 100% accurate, it was nice to see how much I'm wasting and where I need to cut back on plastics (grocery store and take out seem to be #1 and #2). -
Brittany Connelly 7/18/2019 6:35 AMThrough my waste-audit I've found a majority of the trash I'm producing comes from take-out containers. I'll definitely start going out to eat less, and try to bring containers with me. -
Brittany Connelly 7/09/2019 9:38 AMWe caught up to Maryland Zoo once, we can do it again! Keep checking in and logging your actions! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Brittany Connelly 7/01/2019 7:50 AMI'm going to complete my audit as an ongoing reflection for the month. At the start, I try to throw away as little as possible and reuse small plastic bags for liners. I know my composting needs to improve. I have a good bit in my freezer currently, but I need to find a place in town to drop it off.-
Eliza Christovich 7/10/2019 8:39 AMYou are doing great! I am inspired at how you are doing so much work for the environment!! -
Brittany Connelly 7/01/2019 1:38 PMI found one close by my place! Thanks Jamie! Going to bike down and drop off what's been in the freezer! -
Jamie Broussard 7/01/2019 12:17 PMThere are community dropoff points at libraries all over town! You can find one that's convenient for you. Compost NOW is an awesome grassroots organization!
