Karen's actions
Food
Lobby for Reusables
I will lobby my workplace to have reusable dishes and silverware in order to minimize disposables.
Community
Share My Actions
I will make my environmental actions visible by posting to my social media networks.
Community
Visit A Waste Management Facility
I will visit a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Food
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Lifestyle
Naked Bins
I will either line my trash cans with repurposed newspaper or paper bags, or I will not line my trash cans at all.
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 2 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Community
Write Letters or Emails
I will write 2 letter(s) or email(s) per day to a public official or company to advocate for planet-friendly policies.
Create Your Own Action
Plastic free events
Create plastic free community events. So much garbage is generated at events, especially plastic garbage. Bring reusable plates, encourage water jugs to fill reusables or paper cups.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Karen Buck 7/06/2019 3:11 PMI actually did this on July 1, asking the Malden City Councillors to use water jugs and paper cups vs. handing out bottled water at their 7/4th events. I wrote 11 councillors with a few responses of positivism and acknowledgement of already doing it. I will find out about the others who participated in
"Independence from Plastics Day" -
Karen Buck 6/30/2019 1:08 PMI purchased Eco-strips (Laundry Detergent) from Tru Earth (Canada). I was ready to spend the extra buck to rid the bulky and water laden laundry detergent containers. GAK! The strips are packaged in a plastic bag! This will be my first call to a company on Monday, July 1.
