REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Rosie Brown 7/31/2019 11:36 AMI have been a huge user of Ziploc bags for snacks for years, but this challenge has really made me realize how much plastic waste I generate and Ziploc bags are a big part of my problem. I recently purchased a multi-pack of differently sized re-usable containers for snacks so I can break this nasty habit! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusables at WorkIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
Rosie Brown 7/08/2019 5:55 AMI made it all week last week with using reusable containers for my lunch! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Rosie Brown 7/08/2019 5:53 AMI have been trying to kick this habit for a long time. I cannot tell you how many reusable shopping bags I own. I keep a lot of them in my car, but the challenge comes in because I either forget to take them into the store; OR I do succeed in using them, and then forget to put the bags in my car for next time; OR I have all of the bags in my car, but then my husband drives to the store.... So I've been trying to be really mindful about this one. I did remember my bags this week, but I did use a butcher-area bag for my package of chicken breasts.... I haven't come up with a solution for that one, yet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Rosie Brown 7/08/2019 5:47 AMMy office kitchen provides plastic cutlery and I've definitely been guilty of relying on that. Now I'm keeping re-usable silverware in my lunch bag and I'm washing them in our work kitchen every afternoon. I haven't worked up the nerve to make a bigger deal out of it yet, but I've already told a few people who've seen me at it that I'm working to reduce my reliance on single-use plastics and I've had a few really good conversations. I'm hoping it keeps up this week and I can influence more coworkers to realize how harmful they are for the environment.
