Mirage's actions
Lifestyle
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA approved reusable quart sized bag.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Mirage Bordes 7/31/2019 1:23 PMChallenge went great and was a little difficult at time only because of what was on hand around me were not reusable items. -
Mirage Bordes 7/11/2019 1:29 PMIt was going great! However, I had to use 2 plastic bags that were not exactly reusable but I washed them a few times and reused them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel ToiletriesWhat is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?
Mirage Bordes 7/11/2019 1:26 PMMy husband and I make our own bars of soap so the benefit is we know exactly what is in the soap we use. Also, we don't wrap our soaps with anything so there is no "excessive packing" . Also, no plastic bottles! We will keep this in our life - we enjoy making our soaps and using them! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusables at WorkIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Mirage Bordes 7/06/2019 5:52 AMWhen you hear disposables most people think something you use once and throw away, however I try to use my "disposable" items more than once. For example, dryer sheets, they make your clothes smell great and they can be used to clean the bottom of an iron. Also, I run them along the baseboards and put them on my Swifter to clean the floors. Another disposable item such as yogurt containers can be used afterwards to store leftover food.

Mirage Bordes 7/03/2019 6:18 AMIn the documentary, Mission Blue Earl says she "has yet to take a dive.... and not see tangible evidence of our presence." Her statement has stuck with me and when I have a conversation with people who don't see the point in picking up trash I'll be sure to bring that sentence up along with other facts of what we are doing to the world. -
Mirage Bordes 7/01/2019 9:28 AMGreat! It was easy for me to think of grabbing a Ziploc bag for snacks today but remembered I have containers that I can use instead! I'm using my latch container=D
