Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Great job on getting rid of your disposable cup habit! How does it make you feel? What's next on your list to reduce your waste?

It makes me feel so good! I think the big thing to work on from here will be plastic wraps on food...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

For me, this was easy, for my wife it was another story. It really comes down to an understanding of where it all goes, and understanding that we have to make sacrifices to better our planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
It is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?

You can't force this stuff down people's throats, but you can lead by example. The more that you do it, the more other people will ask, and you can explain, then trickle on from there.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle
Which documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?

Just finished watching Our Planet on Netflix, for the third time...oof that walrus scene. We CAN take care of our planet, and it's all the little actions that count in the end!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community
How does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?

Volunteering in my community allows me to go out and educate the general public about everything from plastic to conservation to zoology, and everything in between!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

So much cheaper (most of the time) and it's just easier to store! That is, when it comes to bar options. Make sure you don't get your bars plastic wrapped!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
What have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?

Economic: cheaper. Social: more hipster. They just look so cool. Honestly, I'm not sure if there really was a need for the old ones now that I use mine...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
Do some research on polystyrene and polyvinyl. How many items in your house already contain these toxins?

SO MANY ITEMS. That said, as time goes on, we can implement these better practices to reduce our waste output!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care
Currently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

Seems to me that making this stuff isn't too hard, or too hard on the wallet! Time to get to creating!

  • The toothpaste switch will put a bit of a dent in your wallet the first time, but we're excited to learn how to do it on our own too!
