All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or I will make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Lifestyle
Homemade Cleaners
I will make my own cleaning products at home.
Lifestyle
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 3 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Rose Bemo 7/31/2019 8:25 AMThis was my 2nd Plastic Free Challenge and I feel more empowered and knowledgeable than before. Not only am I making better choices, but I'm also influencing the way my friends and family go about their daily routine. Thank you to everyone for all the encouragement and tips on how to make a smaller impact on Mother Earth. -
Rose Bemo 7/30/2019 6:42 AMToday was the day my husband asked to have some of the reusable grocery bags to keep in his car. Woohoo! -
Rose Bemo 7/23/2019 7:58 PMUsed my new reusable straw today at a restaurant. Thankfully I remembered to pull it out of my glass before we left. -
Rose Bemo 7/16/2019 7:36 PMWhen you make an unplanned stop at the grocery store & don't have your mesh produce bags with you, the sacker looks at you funny when he pulls a bare naked head of broccoli from the conveyor belt, before he drops it in your paper grocery sack. LOL -
Rose Bemo 7/11/2019 8:40 PMOne of my favorite local coffee shops has a new BYOC program. You bring your own cup for coffee and your 11th coffee is on them. Elemental Coffee Roasters in Oklahoma City, thank you for helping to eliminate unnecessary waste in my favorite city! -
Rose Bemo 7/08/2019 7:55 PMI was off work today and thinking about plastic, as I cleaned house. I reorganized my reusable shopping bags and washed my fabric shower curtain liner. I've always used plastic shower curtain liners until recently. The fabric version isn't much more in price and it's a simple way to reduce plastic usage in my home. -
Rose Bemo 7/07/2019 6:40 PMTook advantage of my early morning dog walk to pick up some trash in my neighborhood. A couple of plastic cups went into my Big Green recycle bin and the rest in the trash can. Anyone have a recommendation for eco-friendly poop bags? Maybe I could use some biodegradable bags intended for composting? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel SmartHow can/did you prepare to be successful in this action? Did you engage in conversation with anyone about your new habit?
Rose Bemo 7/05/2019 7:52 PMI'm getting great referrals from coworkers about bar shampoos, etc. Using plastic free products will work well at home and on the road. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Rose Bemo 7/02/2019 6:36 PMSince our nation buys so many of their meals from a fast food drive-thru window, that seems the most logical place to start. If drive-thru windows made disposable cutlery the exception & not the rule, the population would adapt. Customers are taking the food home anyway, they can use their own dang utensils! I notice that banning smoking in restaurants didn't kill the food service industry, same logic to me.
