Cheryl Bader 7/30/2019 2:14 PMHey all, if you've seen my post about AB 1080 / SB 54 California Circular Economy and Plastic Pollution Reduction Act - please let me know if you have made calls to your State legislators. Every reply earns some points and I would like to know. Thanks Cheryl -
Cheryl Bader 7/30/2019 1:25 PMHere's something you can do. Call your State Senator or Assemblymember (http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/) . Ask them to vote Yes on AB 1080 / SB 54 when the bills come back to the floor for a vote.
AB 1080 / SB 54 California Circular Economy and Plastic Pollution Reduction Act
Protect Our Oceans!
AB 1080 / SB 54 establishes a comprehensive plan to "reduce and recycle" 75% of single-use plastics by 2030. This bill takes a phased approach, calling for manufactures of single-use plastic packaging or products distributed and sold in California to show a recycling rate of at least 20% by January 1, 2022, and at least 40% by 2026. By 2030, all products would have to be "recyclable or compostable". AB 1080 / SB 54 has passed both houses, the bill may have a tough road ahead as it goes from the Appropriations Committee back to the floor for "three readings" and then another vote. The opposition will be lead by the plastics industry.
Call your California Senator or Assembly Member to Vote Yes on
AB 1080 / SB 54 when the bills return to the floor.
Senator Steven Bradford, 35th District: 916-651-4035
Senator Ben Allen, 26th District: 916-651-4026
Thank him for co-sponsoring AB 1080 / SB 54
Assemblymember Patrick O'Donnell, 70th Assembly District: 916-319-2070
Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, District 66: 916-319-2066
Talking points AB 1080 / SB 54
1. Annual global plastic production has grown to more than 335 million tons per year
2. California only recycles 15% of it's single-use plastic
3. China's "Scrap Import Restrictions" has made recycling plastic too expensive and plastic now is being added to the landfill.

Be sure to give your name and address, state you are a constituent. Calling your own legislator is most effective.
Let's Go!
Cheryl . (I just made my calls - they were all very receptive and "logged" my calls).-

Cheryl Bader 7/30/2019 12:57 PMOne of the reasons I signed up for the challenge was to find out what plastic free products are recommended bu the team. I would appreciate any help I can get on bar shampoo and conditioner, cleaning products, reusable food storage bags, other personal care products like deodorant. Thanks
