Create Your Own Action

Read - How to Live Plastic Free

I have had this book written by the Marine Conservation Society on my stack of unread books for several months. Making this a commitment for July puts it at the top of my reading list.

During the EcoChallenge I realized my goal of installing a Little free library in front of my house where people can pick up and drop off books for free.  Not plastics related but still supporting the sharing economy.  I realized I was actually more excited about starting this up and watching how the community reacts than I am about buying new books!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle Travel Toiletries
What is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?

I invited local firm participants to my house Saturday for dinner and we discussed the movies we have watched.  A number of us had watched the Minimalists and it did make us think more about what we consume.  The final lines in the movie included, "Love people. Use things. The opposite never works.”  So true.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Visit the Butcher
How has using your own containers impacted the quality of the food you receive? Does this give you more awareness of where your food comes from as opposed to just grabbing a package of mystery origin cheese/meat?

I felt a little awkward carrying my own STASH bag to the deli counter at my local grocery store this weekend, But the attendant didn't bat an eye.  Not sure it made me more aware of where the food comes from.  It did make me more aware thinking about all the one-time plastic in my life.

Getting ready to hit the road tomorrow - so packing up my reusable straw, water bottle, spork.  My husband is a bit hesitant about the spork.  It is good to challenge ourselves!
