This challenge requires lots of forethought, and being prepared. There were a few days/instances where I was unable to complete the challenge because I didn't plan ahead (needing to buy something unexpected and not having bags with me). Having an ample supply of reusable produce bags and grocery bags that were easily accessible made this easier.

    Food Minimize Packaging
With the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?

Throughout this past month, I've become increasingly mindful of how prevalent single use plastic packaging is. It feels like in our current country and system, living "normally" and buying "standard" products necessitates single use plastic - in order to avoid using single use plastic completely, extreme measures must be taken. As a household, we try to buy in as much bulk as possible to minimize the ratio of plastic packaging to food, and use reusable containers/produce bags/etc. Nonetheless, as a household we still generate some single use plastic waste.  I feel like systemic change in single use plastic requires both consumers and corporations to change their methods. Are there creative ways for individuals to repurpose/utilize their single use plastic packaging?

For a daytrip to Northwestern Washington, I planned ahead by packing a cooler bag with food and snacks in re-usable tupperware with silverware from home. Having access to a cooler bag, some ice packs, and the time to cook can make a big difference towards preventing unnecessary waste such as food containers, disposable silverware, and more. I took multiple re-usable water bottles with me as well.
