July 31 at 8:23 PMI am happy that I participated in this challenge. Today being the last day of the official July challenge, I couldn’t help but notice some of the things I did with less thought today...both my son and his friend had reusable water bottles at football camp today (sad to see how many kids did not), we led by example and picked up other people's...

July 31 at 8:16 AMI'm looking into how to put a filter on my washing machine to trap plastic microfibers before they end up in our waterways.

July 31 at 8:14 AMA study of Oregon rivers found that plastic pollution is almost everywhere — and almost all of us are to blame. Want to kick your plastic habit? OPB says putting a filter on your washing machine, avoiding plastic bags at the grocery store, and pressuring your favorite brands to go greener are good ways to start. (OPB)

July 31 at 8:13 AMUsing up the leftovers from the huge Christensen plastic free family reunion. Just finished the first and hardest step of what I hope is an amazing buttermilk ice cream. (12 egg yolks!) Buttermilk left over from Aebleskivers, which are round Danish pancakes. But now I have leftover egg whites to deal with. A girl can't get a break. Any...

July 30 at 9:40 PMI patched two of my plastic river floaties today. They had holes and I was tempted to throw them away (they cost $5 each). But in the spirit of the eco challenge I thought I should try to get another summer out of them. I’m glad I put forth the extra effort. I think my patch job was a success!

July 30 at 6:05 AMI have a bag of reusable bags, the difficulty is in remembering to bring them inside the store with me. I decided that if I forgot them I either needed to go bag out to the car or carry everything without a bag, it has helped to remind me so I am not juggling all My groceries through the parking lot. I am also bringing the bags right back to...

July 30 at 6:02 AMRight now I am focusing on my family and showing others who we interact with that it is easier when you plan ahead. For sporting events I will bring our larger igloo water jug to refill other kids bottles so they are not buying more. Last week we switched to local glass bottled milk. Lead by example and bring things up in daily conversation in...

July 30 at 5:59 AMSocial media is a great way to let others know what you are doing and to give someone else ideas of things they can do. Most folks I am on social media with are of similar minds, but if something I do makes one other person start a positive habit then it is a good thing. I also reinforce what my friends are doing.

July 29 at 12:56 PMthis challenge made me think more about what I was buying and offered solutions that were easy to implement. Although we’ve already adopted the reusable shopping bag (thank you CA for forcing this change on me ;)) and water bottle habits I’ve purchased mesh bags for purchasing produce and plan to bring my own containers to the market for meat...

July 29 at 12:25 PMReflecting on this challenge-being on vacation made reducing plastic hard. We were eating out more often and I kept forgetting to ask for no straws. We were buying food for breakfasts and lunch and it was hard not to buy single size yogurt and cheese and deli meat in plastic. Flying on airplanes is was shocking to think about how much single...
