Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own airplane snacks and eat at local restaurants to avoid take-out containers.

Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Personal Care
Lather Up
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, and conditions with either a bar or refillable option.
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging.
Food
Visit the Butcher
I will purchase meats and cheeses from the deli counter or a butcher shop, and use my own containers to do so.

Shop the Bulk Bins
I will purchase dry goods from the bulk section of my grocery store, and use my own containers to do so.

That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Rachel Rosen 7/11/2019 8:03 AMI would say this was a bit tougher to execute as you have to plan in advance, have restraint not to eat your snacks, and keep extra space in your luggage for the container. Additionally, if the container is dirty you have to keep that with you even if you might not have an easy way to clean it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Shop the Bulk BinsHow has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?
Rachel Rosen 7/05/2019 9:13 AMI love that at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's I can take the compostable bags and use them in the bulk bin, thus minimizing the packaging use to get the food to my home.
I do think buying in bulk limits my choices so that is a struggle sometimes. We definitely rely more on prepackaged foods and so many more options exist there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel SmartHow can/did you prepare to be successful in this action? Did you engage in conversation with anyone about your new habit?
Rachel Rosen 7/03/2019 8:50 AMI always bring my reusable water bottle bottle with me. I'm trying to figure out a longer term plan to do this in underdeveloped countries by purchasing a filter/purifying device or add on. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Lather UpWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Rachel Rosen 7/01/2019 12:52 PMLush is a great place to shop for this! I feel great knowing there is no plastic involved in my shampoo/conditioner/bath bar.
