Lori's actions
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Community
Visit A Waste Management Facility
I will visit a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Lifestyle
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Food
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Pets
Pet Waste
I will spend 30 minutes learning how to compost pet waste at home or research pet waste composting services available in my area.
Family
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 2 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.

Lori Nitchals 7/24/2019 5:26 PMDiscovered that most wax paper uses paraffin, a petroleum based product. Found a product that uses soybean wax instead. Will use as a back up to my Bees Wrap.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Visit A Waste Management FacilityLandfills and recycling centers tell us a lot about our communities and purchasing habits. What did you glean from your visit?
Lori Nitchals 7/23/2019 2:09 PMOur recycling center was started by a local family of orchardists who changed over to more sustainable practices. Love having a place to bring my excess yard waste! -
Lori Nitchals 7/23/2019 8:11 AMPut all my unused Ziplock bags into the garage to reduce the temptation to use them. The drawer they were in is now filled with reusable stainless steel containers, silicone bags and containers, mesh and cloth produce bags, and Bees Wrap.
