Erin's actions
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Personal Care
Lather Up
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, and conditions with either a bar or refillable option.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 1 piece(s) of litter each day.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Erin Nicole 7/31/2019 11:49 AMTrying not to beat myself up for not getting "perfect scores" in this challenge, while at the same time being super proud of the impact I did have this month. I'll be carrying some new, eco-conscious habits into this next month and beyond, that's for sure! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Erin Nicole 7/31/2019 11:38 AMWe connect to the things we nurture, and I like to think that keeping my community free of litter helps me nurture it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Lather UpWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Erin Nicole 7/31/2019 11:30 AMI can't imagine the convenience and plastic costs placed on bottled soaps from places like CVS/Walgreens and Target. Purchasing from local shops, with locally made hygiene products that aren't bottled in plastic, sounds like a money-saver to me, and allows me to directly support my local economy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Erin Nicole 7/31/2019 11:27 AMWhile they are sometimes heavier, glass and stainless steel containers last so much longer than the hard plastic ones. I'll be purchasing those as I phase out some of my older plastic containers. -
Erin Nicole 7/15/2019 11:21 AMI finally used the last of my plastic-packaged body wash, so I put the bottle in the recycling bin and began using my bar of soap. Next up is either bar-shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottles of each. Any suggestions from the team on refillable shampoo brands that are safe for color-treated hair would be awesome! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Erin Nicole 7/15/2019 11:13 AMDefinitely. Not only am I rarely automatically given a straw anymore, I'd have to ask for one if I did want one. I can't even remember the last time I was offered one. It's great! Way to go, Gainesville restaurants!
