Trying not to beat myself up for not getting "perfect scores" in this challenge, while at the same time being super proud of the impact I did have this month. I'll be carrying some new, eco-conscious habits into this next month and beyond, that's for sure!

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

We connect to the things we nurture, and I like to think that keeping my community free of litter helps me nurture it.

What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

I can't imagine the convenience and plastic costs placed on bottled soaps from places like CVS/Walgreens and Target. Purchasing from local shops, with locally made hygiene products that aren't bottled in plastic, sounds like a money-saver to me, and allows me to directly support my local economy.

How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

While they are sometimes heavier, glass and stainless steel containers last so much longer than the hard plastic ones. I'll be purchasing those as I phase out some of my older plastic containers.

I finally used the last of my plastic-packaged body wash, so I put the bottle in the recycling bin and began using my bar of soap. Next up is either bar-shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottles of each. Any suggestions from the team on refillable shampoo brands that are safe for color-treated hair would be awesome!

Have you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.

Definitely. Not only am I rarely automatically given a straw anymore, I'd have to ask for one if I did want one. I can't even remember the last time I was offered one. It's great! Way to go, Gainesville restaurants!
