How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

I'm not into group activities.  Just enjoy going out with my dog and friends.  Made an extra effort to clean areas and pick up other items left behind (like dog poop).  Trying tp do more "action" vs." reaction."

    Lifestyle Natural Fibers
What are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?

Every time someone buys something made with natural fibers we are not adding to the pollution (natural fibers can even be composted).  "Upcycling," what I consider as buying from a non-profit thrift store, not only extends the life of an article, but provides money to a worthy non-profit agency.

Well - I enjoy talking to others about the challenge and what we each can do to get more involved.

Instead of freezing food items I had bought for the incoming asylum seekers coming through ABQ (temporary stop of buses) I am taking the food to the St. Felix food pantry.

Was surprised when Southwest Airlines said thanks for your message but we won't be getting rid of plastic straws.  Then they said they wanted me to continue to be a loyal customer.

What did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?

Had stopped composting and was appalled at how that increased our waste.  Now that I know what I did wrong in the past and an easy way to make composting happen, I'm back in the game.  Most of our paper went into the recycling bin, but that will now go into the compost.  Also making plans to compost dog poop - that will also cut back on our waste.

Need to make sure I check in more often.  Starting to notice more opportunities for completing actions, such as getting plastic straws in one of a local restaurant chain where at least one of their other restaurants have gone away from plastic.  Also heard where my favorite airline (Southwest) has not yet been convinced to move away from plastic straws.  Also, doing research on composting dog poop took me to a composting class that has me all geared up to start composting again.  I was making too many mistakes at first.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Pets Pet Waste
By composting your pet waste, you are turning waste into nutrients to feed the soil. In what other ways can you turn waste into a resource in your life?

Actually took a two hour Composting 101 course this morning.  Instructor was excellent and explained how to successfully compost in a desert environment.  Learned that if you compost dog, pig or cat waste that you do not want to use that compost on gardens (animals that transmit disease to humans), but it would be good for things such as ornamentals.  Excited to get back into composting (learned about mistakes we have made in the past).

More waste then I'd like to think about.  Need to be more conscious of what I am using and find ways to curb that.
